The Search of Atahualpa, DVD
For centuries, explorers entered the remote region of the Llanganaties in Ecuador, far away from any known civilization, to retrace the itinerary described in the Valverde’s Derrotero, and ultimately find the greatest treasure of the Incas. Facing extreme weather conditions and the roughest terrain, many of them perished during this enterprise.
Today, inspired by previous explorations, an International team of adventurers lead their own expedition into the Llanganatis, to trace Valverde’s footsteps and to ultimately discover the last resting place of the Inca Emperor, Atahualpa. Facing the same direct threats as previous expeditions, their journey is plagued by years of investigations, incessant rain, dangerous river travel, and many other dangers in this still-unexplored territory of the Andes.
This expedition and documentary will travel all over the world, finding evidences and bringing new technologies to the rescue, in an attempt to debunk some of the myths and legends that surround this story. During our 5 years wilderness trip, we will interview treasure hunters, librarians and archeologists, document our campsites and adventures, and investigate several leads in an attempt to finally solve this centuries-long mystery.
Our expedition will be lead by an experienced mountaineer. Our support crew includes researchers, video editors, writers, a photographer, and a videographer. The ultimate goal of this project is to create a documentary that investigates questions about the legend of Atahualpa and the Lost Inca Gold in a manner that is entertaining, educative, and insightful.
We have spent over a year creating this fascinating project and we will be working on it for the next 3-5 years in order to get all the right footage shot on-location, from dusty archives to the treacherous depths of the cloud forests of the Andes, documenting every moment of the expedition. This is not a dramatization, everything is real.
In Search of Athualpa will be submitting to various high-profile festivals for potential sale.
